Privacy Policy

Effective October 4, 2026

In short: we use your information only to run BudgetGen for you. We don't sell it, we don't show ads, and we don't track you across other apps or websites. You can delete your account, and everything in it, at any time.

Who we are

BudgetGen is an app made by Austin Pennyfeather of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada ("we", "us"). We are responsible for the personal information described in this policy. You can reach us at info@phileosolutions.com.

What we collect

InformationWhat it includes
Your accountHow you sign in: an anonymous account made on your phone, or Sign in with Apple, Google, or an email address and password. If you use Apple, Google or email, we keep your email address (Apple may give us a private relay address instead), and the name Apple or Google shares (Google also shares the address of your Google profile photo, which BudgetGen doesn't use); we use your first name for what BudgetGen calls you.
Your profileYour first name; a profile photo, if you add one; and your answers to two onboarding questions: who you manage money with and how you heard about us.
Your planWhat you enter about your money: income and paydays, accounts and balances, bills, debts, expenses, budgets, savings goals and the amount you keep aside.
Your chatsThe questions you ask and BudgetGen's answers, kept so you can pick up where you left off. When you send a receipt photo, the chat keeps only a note that a receipt was sent, not the photo.
Usage countsHow many questions you've asked today and receipts you've sent this month, which we need for the daily and monthly limits.
Your subscriptionWhether you have a subscription or free trial, and when it ends, from Apple through RevenueCat. In a shared plan, we record whose subscription covers it. We never see your card or payment details.
NotificationsA token that lets us send notifications to your phone, for example when your partner adds an expense.
Invite codesWhen you invite a partner, the code you create (it expires after a few days). When you join with a code, a record of attempts, including your network (IP) address, so codes can't be guessed.
Problem reportsWhat you write when you report a problem, and any screenshots you choose to attach.
Crash reportsWhen the app crashes or hits an error: the device model, operating system and app version, and technical details of the error, linked to a random account ID rather than your name or email. Designed to leave out your amounts and what you type.
Usage analyticsWhich screens and features are used, so we can improve them, linked to a random account ID rather than your name or email. Designed to leave out your amounts and what you type, and no advertising identifier. On unless you turn "Share usage data" off.

How we use it

Answers and receipts, by AI

To answer a question, BudgetGen sends Google's Gemini model, through Firebase AI Logic: your question, your first name, whether you manage money with a partner, recent messages from your chat, and the figures from your plan the answer needs. A receipt photo you send is sent to Gemini to read its date, store and total; we do not store the photo. Google processes this as our service provider, under its terms for business customers. AI answers can be wrong, which is why BudgetGen works out every figure itself and asks you to confirm before any change is saved.

Who we share it with

We never sell your information, and we don't share it for advertising. We share it only:

ProviderWhat for
Google (Firebase)Sign-in, storing your plan, profile photo and chats, server functions, app integrity checks (App Check), crash reports (Crashlytics), usage analytics (Google Analytics), notifications (Cloud Messaging) and this website (Hosting).
Google (Gemini, through Firebase AI Logic)Answering your questions and reading receipts.
RevenueCatKeeping track of your subscription.
AppleApp Store purchases, Sign in with Apple, and delivering notifications.

Where it's stored

Your information is stored and processed by our service providers in the United States, and may be processed in other countries where they operate. While it is there, it may be accessible to authorities in those countries under their laws. Our providers protect it with encryption in transit and at rest.

Your choices

How long we keep it, and deleting it

We keep your information while your account exists. When you delete your account (Settings, App Settings, Data controls, Delete account), we delete your profile, photo, plan, chats, usage counts, this phone's notification token, and any problem reports you sent with their screenshots. If you share a plan with a partner, the shared plan stays with them; your profile and chats are deleted.

Some things are kept after that: your subscription's purchase records at Apple and RevenueCat, under a random account ID; any invite codes you created, until they expire; records of attempts to join with a code; notification tokens from other phones you used; and crash reports and usage analytics, which Google keeps for a limited period under its own retention settings. See Delete your account for the details, and for how to ask us by email.

This website

This website uses no cookies, analytics or trackers. As with any website, our host (Google Firebase Hosting) receives your network address and browser details to deliver the pages.

Keeping it safe

Your data is protected by access rules that let only you, and a partner you invite, read your plan; by app integrity checks; and by Google's encryption. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will tell you, as the law requires, if a breach puts you at real risk.

Children

BudgetGen isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.

Your rights

Under Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act and Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act, you can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, and withdraw your consent (which may mean you can no longer use BudgetGen). Email info@phileosolutions.com; we'll reply within 30 days. If you're not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the date above, and tell you in the app before an important change takes effect.
